Audi RSQ8 review - MPG and running costs

Audi Sport’s RSQ8 is its biggest and heaviest model yet, but the brand is on form recently so could this actually be an entertaining SUV?

  • Deeply impressive powertrain, transmission calibration and response. Feels expensive and fully loaded
  • It can’t hide the extra 300kg it weighs over an RS6, yet it’s less practical and more expensive

The RSQ8 is unlikely to be on Greta Thunberg’s shopping list, let’s just say that. Despite a shedload of clever fuel-saving tech such as cylinder deactivation, a 48V mild-hybrid electrical system and all the rest, Audi quotes a WLTP consumption figure of 20.5mpg on the smaller 22-inch wheel (figures on the 23-inch wheel have yet to be released). Emissions are an equally scary 277g/km, although beyond the first year, yearly road tax isn’t really an issue any more…

Supplementary running costs are also likely to be high – you’ll likely jump right to the top of your local tyre supplier and fitter’s Christmas card list, although it might be worth considering what it’d be like to change a 23-inch wheel and tyre package over a very expensive set of carbon-ceramic brake discs before you ask for a discount.
