Audi Q8 review – a master of comfort and refinement - MPG and running costs

Audi’s first coupe SUV isn’t the last word in driving thrills, but it serves up an easy to live with and satisfying package

  • Comfortable, luxurious and completely intuitive to drive despite its size
  • Neither thrilling or exciting, may not be flamboyant enough for some

MPG and running costs

The official MPG figures for the Q8 suggest that over 40mpg will be achievable on a combined run. With a careful right foot that may well be possible, but we only managed low-30s during our drive. That said, even our economy results are impressive for an SUV that weighs more than 2000kg.

The Q8’s huge wheels may not have a detrimental effect on the car’s comfort levels, but it does on the cost of tyres. The 285/45 R21 Hankooks that are standard on the S-line are over £200, while tyres that size from other brands are at least twice as much. The 285/40 R22 Continental Sport Contact 6 tyres on the Vorsprung are over £300 each.
