Vauxhall Adam review - stylish, but is it fun? - Interior and tech

Vauxhall’s Adam has style but lacks substance

Evo rating
Price
from £11,860
  • Almost infinite personalisation options, appealing looks and interior
  • Occasionally tough ride, Fiat 500 and MINI are nicer cars

Your head will start spinning here, long before you’ve looked at optional extras. There are 15 designs of seat, 19 door inserts, eight ambient lighting selections and even a choice of six headliners (one of which offers a Rolls-Royce-style starlight effect). This is before any sticker packages or foil panels are thrown into the equation, so you can see why it’s highly unlikely that two Adams will ever leave the line identical.

It’s spacious up front for two adults and there’s much more visual appeal to the Adam’s sprightly dashboard design when compared to the usual uniformly-black Vauxhall fare, but the steering wheel can feel weirdly oversized (nowhere is this more noticeable than in the Adam S) and the back seats are as ineffectual as those in the Fiat 500 or Mini.

The S’s interior is nicely sporty, save for garish ‘S’ stickers splashed about, but our favourite once again is the Rocks, with some specific trim finishes just elevating it above the norm.

Big car toys make their way into the Adam range, including a heated steering wheel and seats (the Winter Pack, £215), Advanced Park Assist (£450), IntelliLink seven-inch touchscreen infotainment control with satnav app compatibility (£275) and a premium sound system (£300), among other additions.
