Mercedes-AMG boss confirms hotter AMG GT sports cars

There's a more focused AMG GT on the way - but it won't be a Black Series just yet

Tobias Moers, the head of AMG – Mercedes’ high performance division – has confirmed his team is developing a focused, more powerful version of the AMG GT sports coupe.

Speaking at the Frankfurt motor show, Moers said, ‘We’ve put a lot of effort into increasing our members of the AMG GT family and the next performance level is part of our daily work. We’ve made some good improvements.

‘It’s not the Black Series. Expect something surprising. The car will have outstanding performance. We’ve made some effort with the powertrain, aero, weight… everything regarding performance.’

When asked why the forthcoming model would not be called Black Series, Moers replied, ‘Maybe there is a CEO at AMG who believes there is another chance to have a Black Series above that.’

Mercedes could introduce two enhanced versions to sit above the 503bhp AMG GT S, then, one of which would carry the Black Series moniker that Mercedes reserves for its most extreme performance models. Moers declined to comment on the possibility of a convertible version of the AMG GT, saying only that he was ‘open to the idea’.
