Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe commission revealed

This bespoke 996 commission has been designed for the Porsche Club of America in celebration of the classic ‘90s 911

Porsche Individual and Classic has revealed a new one-off recommission it has built for the Porsche Club of America called the 911 Classic Club Coupe. Based on a 996 911 Carrera 2, it features a range of bespoke styling elements paired to a chassis and powertrain based on the 996.2 GT3, all in celebration of the 996 generation.

That means that under the skin the Classic Club Coupe now features a larger 3.6-litre flat-six engine, which produces 375bhp and 284lb ft of torque. It’s paired to a six-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive and a limited slip differential. The chassis setup has also been converted to 996.2 specification, including the suspension and brakes which have a four-piston setup on the front axle.

The styling still reflects its 996.1 Carrera 2 origins in its narrow body design, borrowing the front splitter and sills with the period 996.1 GT3, save for the rear bumper which ditches the rear skirt pods and aero-kit wing in favour of a bespoke composite ducktail spoiler.

Also bespoke to the Classic Club is a reimagination of the iconic Fuchs wheel design, which are 18-inches in diameter and finished in a two-tone metallic black finish with a silver rim.  Another key element is the double-dome roof panel, which has since been reimagined multiple times in modern 911 models, but never on an older generation 996. The body itself is painted in a PTS Sport Grey finish, contrasted with subtle stripes running up the car’s bodywork.

The interior features its own bespoke finishes and materials, including woven leather trim on the seats and door cards that create a sort of three-dimensional take on the iconic houndstooth fabric pattern – one made famous in mainstream fashion as much as Porsche’s back catalogue.

Typically, Porsche has not released the cost of the commission, but we expect it to be beyond the scope of normal 996 values, despite a growing interest in the second hand market. Rather, like the Project Gold 993 Turbo it revealed last year, the Classic Club Coupe is instead a showcase to owners of what Porsche’s Individual and Classic departments are capable of doing for owners wanting to complete similar recomissions of their own cars.
