Sebastien Loeb knighted

Record breaking World Rally driver Sebastien Loeb is knighted in his French homeland

World Rally’s most successful driver has added a knighthood to his armoury.

Sebastien Loeb has picked up the WRC drivers’ title for the last five consecutive years, and with 52 rally wins, he holds the highest number of race victories in the series, too.

He was awarded a ‘Legion d’honneur’ – a French knighthood – by the president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy.

‘I am extremely honoured to have been recognised in this way by the President of the Republic,’ Seb said. ‘This award is given to an individual, but I would like to share it with each and every member of the Citroen team. Every time that we hear the French National Anthem played at the end of a rally, we all feel exactly the same pride at having showcased France to the best of all our abilities.

‘I hope now that I can continue to worthily represent my country by claiming a sixth consecutive World Rally Championship title at the end of this year.’

With five wins from the six rounds so far, you’d be a fool to bet against him.

You can read about when our own rallying man Henry Catchpole met Seb Loeb here.
