McLaren 720S now available with optional Track Pack

New Track Pack option available on McLaren 720S; reduces weight by 24kg

McLaren has released details of a new Track Pack for the 720S, combining a variety of select options to reduce weight and increase its track-focus. There is no extra power on offer – although as we’ve noted in the past the 720S is hardly in need of that. Instead, the upgrades incorporate carbonfibre components and telemetry tech to get the most out of your 720S on a track day.

The pack is only available on the ‘Performance’ model, which already includes a scattering of carbonfibre components. In addition to these, the Track Pack’s most dramatic exterior change is a gloss-finish carbonfibre rear wing, complementing a dark-finish sports exhaust system and a dark finish on the (usually optional) 10-spoke forged super-lightweight wheels.

The interior also gains lightweight carbon bucket seats with a part-Alcantara finish, also applied to the rest of the interior and steering wheel. Carbonfibre is also used on the shift paddles, with a carbon finish to the centre dash and steering wheel, too. Behind the new bucket seats is a new titanium bar for mounting a six-point harness.

McLaren’s Track Telemetry system is standard, allowing drivers to download and analyse their performance during track days. Three cameras are also fitted to support the telemetry readings.

Despite the weight savings, performance figures are unchanged, the Track Pack reaching 62mph in a claimed 2.9secs and 124mph in just 7.8secs.

McLaren launched a similar Track Pack on its Sports Series 570S, which has subsequently proven quite popular, optioned on one in ten models ordered. The 720S Track Pack is available to order now, costing £28,360 on top of the usual 720S Performance sticker price. The first cars will be delivered in 2019.
