evo 267 – on sale now!

evo 267 is about the adrenaline rush, featuring the most thrilling cars on road and track

The thrill of driving can manifest itself in many different ways, but the chance to drive a modern F1 car at Spa on race weekend, going all-out in a brand new Lamborghini Spyder, or experiencing Dallara’s first road car all qualify – and then some. In issue 267 we experience all of the above, chasing that unique adrenaline hit that can only come from from being behind the wheel of a truly special car.

When the question was raised to evo deputy editor Adam Towler: ‘Would you like to drive a Formula 1 car at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps… on F1 race weekend?’ one can only imagine the amount of trepidation. But within a matter of weeks the seat had been fitted, a Eurotunnel place booked, and Towler’s first experience of a single-seat racer was about to begin. Was it possible to enjoy the rush? Could it be anything other than terrifying for, yes, an experienced driver, but one without any experience of motorsport’s top echelon? Adam tells the full story in this month’s evo.

Can motorsport experience translate into on-road brilliance? Italian racing car manufacturer Dallara is one of the biggest names in the business of building competitive race cars, but it has now released a car for the road: the Stradale. Rivalling other focused, road-legal trackday cars such as Caterhams and Ultimas, the Dallara Stradale may well be the next generation of open-air thrill. Jethro Bovingdon took to the wheel to find out if it delivers.

The new Lamborghini Huracán Evo may have disappointed on our first acquaintance in the UK, but how does the new Spyder version fare? With a more theatrical aura – and we don’t just mean its almost iridescent paintwork – does the open-topped V10 Lambo thrill in a way its coupe counterpart doesn’t?

Also this month we bring together 14 of the best hot hatches you can currently buy and – after extensive testing on road and track – rank them in order of evoness. There’s a look back at the origin of not just Toyota’s sports car journey, but that of Japanese sports cars everywhere. We also visit resto-modders extraordinaire, Retropower, to get the lowdown on their incredible creations. And among our first drives this month we have Porsche’s crucial first EV and a very special Zagato’d Aston Martin. All this, plus our usual news, columns and a catch-up with our Fast Fleet feature in the new issue, on sale now!
