Ford Focus RS500 for £2195

Ford tuner Mountune will turn a regular Focus RS into a 345bhp RS500 for two grand

Fancy a new Ford RS500, but already got a Focus RS sitting at home? Then worry not, as Mountune Performance – Ford’s closely affiliated fettler – will give you the same performance tweaks for a lot less money. A larger air filter, intercooler and exhaust pipe and an uprated ECU and fuel pump increase the 2.5-litre turbo engine’s maximum outputs to 345bhp (up from 301) and 339lb ft of torque (previously 324). That leads to a 0-60mph sprint of 5.4sec, while 0-100mph takes 12.2sec. The top speed is 165mph. A quarter mile run can be done in 13.9sec, the Mountuned RS hitting 108mph in the process. You’ll forgo the aggressive matt black look the Focus RS500 gains, but having the new car’s performance in the regular RS’s skin could create an oddly satisfying (though still not subtle) Q car. Mountune’s RS500 affiliations span from the hot Focus right back to the BTCC-winning Sierra RS500 Cosworth of 1990, for which the tuner supplied engines. Its close link with Ford means the MP350 package will not invalidate warranties, and can be fitted at selected Ford dealers. It will set you back £1995, plus £200 labour. Pre-orders can be placed at Mountune’s website, this way…
